The Shadow Internet
This article dashed some of my preconceived notions about where all those bootlegs on the file sharing networks come from. I always figured it was a more home grown operation, with consumers ripping their CDs or DVDs and putting the results out on Kazaa or similar P2P networks. In contrast, this article shows that it's actually a select group of people at the top of a huge and hidden distribution network, operating for status, access, and other intangible motives.
